The Book

"Defeating the Hacker", by Robert Schifreen, is a book about hackers, crackers, phishing, pharming, spammers, scammers, virus-writers, Trojan horses, malware and spyware, and how to keep them out of your company’s computer systems.

All the advice is straightforward, and anyone with a reasonable knowledge of computers and Windows should be able to follow it.

"Defeating the Hacker" is for everyone with a professional involvement in IT security.  If you work for an international corporation with a huge security budget, this is the book for you.  If you work for a small or medium organisation and the IT security role has just been dumped on you, this is the book for you too.

So what makes this book different from other security books?  Quite simply, the author used to be a hacker. So you’re getting advice from someone who knows just how exhilarating it would be to break into other people’s computers and who has, in the past, been prepared to invest large amounts of time attempting to do so.

If you want to learn how to protect your systems, it makes sense to take advice from someone who knows what he’s talking about.
